“For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

The ultimate quest for all of us is to stay happy in life.

Many of us keep the door to happiness closed until some date in the future. But the truth is that we can stay happy now only.

Yes, sometimes it indeed feels impossible to stay happy. And that’s because we depend too much on the external things to make us happy. We actually feel happy when we decide to stay happy.

There are five rules given below which can switch on the happiness button in your life :

Don’t Expect Too Much :

We expect a lot in our daily lives. We expect to get the window seat when we travel, fancy dress at the shopping mall, sudden growth in our investment and there are a lot.

But things go their own way and come up with uncontrollable results. As a result, we feel disappointed and think of ourselves as God’s favorite punching bag.

But if you want to be happy, you have to do your work and leave the results or outcomes of your life detached from your expectations. Obviously, you should have positive expectations on your life as without that your life will not evolve.

Dwell In The Present :

“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.” — Buddha

We always prefer to think about the happy moments we had in our past and how successful we will become in the future. And that’s how we forget to enjoy the present moment. We need to practice focusing on the present if we want to stay happy.

Stay Healthy :

Studies show that a person’s health is one of the strongest factors of happiness. Scientific evidence suggests that being happy may have major benefits for your health.

For starters, being happy promotes a healthy lifestyle. It may also help combat stress, boost your immune system, protect your heart and reduce pain. What’s more, it may even increase your life expectancy.

And to stay happy, you need to stay healthy.

Smile More Often :

Science has shown that the mere act of smiling can lift your mood, lower stress, boost your immune system and possibly even prolong your life.

A smile can actually trick your brain to believe that you’re really happy which will ultimately lead to happiness.

Even you’re in a low mood, try faking it. “Even forcing a fake smile can legitimately reduce stress and lower your heart rate,” adds Dr. Sivan Finkel, a cosmetic dentist at NYC’s The Dental Parlor.

If you’re not even in a good mood, make a schedule for smiling every day to achieve happiness.

Love Yourself :

Have you noticed the new relationship status in social media? People are choosing ” In a Relationship with themselves” because that is what makes them happy. When you give time to your hobbies, your improvement, your learning, your choices, you actually help yourself to be happy.

Self-love is one of the most needed qualities not only to stay happy but to be successful as well.

If you think that what I have told is philosophical only and don’t have any real impact on the practical life, you must try at least one of these before coming to the conclusion.

And it’s okay to be sad at times as we are all human beings,  and we need all kinds of emotions in our lives. But you should not allow that sadness to overcome your happiness.
